Beijing, China, March 11, 2015 - The Chinese Women’s U23 team will assemble in Chenzhou on March 23 for a training camp ahead of the inaugural Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship, which is due to take place in Quezon City and Pasay, the Philippines from May 1 to 9.
The China Volleyball Association and head coach Jiande Xu, who steered China to victory at the 17th Asian Women’s U19 Championship, have high expectations for their team.
“We’ve just finished our league matches. I don’t think it will be difficult to retain fitness levels,” Xu said. “As far as I’m concerned, we remain in good shape. Not just the players, but the coaches are also in good form. What we have to focus on now is on how to unite as a team, because the players are from different clubs.”
The China team includes 20 players, who are from clubs in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong, Liaoning and Hunan. Their ages range from 17 to 22, with the team's height average reaching 1.85m - the team which won the 17th Asian Women’s U19 Championship stood at an average height of 1.90m.
Jiande Xu, who is well-known for his rigorous coaching style, also led China to the 4th Asian Cup title in Shenzhen last year. In the final game, his team were victorious against Korea in straight sets - they also ended the tournament without conceding a set.
