"Our side of the net" programme visits Stara Pazova

Vasa Mijic provides advice in Stara Pazova
Stara Pazova, Serbia, March 11, 2015 - Legendary libero and 2000 Sydney Olympic Games gold medallist Vasa Mijic provided guidance and advice to the "Our side of the net" participants at the Sports Hall in Stara Pazova. The event was sponsored by the Volleyball Federation of Serbia and Vip mobile. The youth girls’ national team of Serbia was also in attendance.

The following children were rewarded for their participation in the "My first volleyball" project: Kristina Majorski, Simona Trivunovic, Lara Bajic, Viktorija Teofilovic, Sofija Valjarevic, Olivera Orescanin, Ilona Valent, Tamara Radulovic, Isidora Vukovic, Tamara Molnar, Aleksandra Knezevic, Uros Radivojevic, Milan Hudjec, Aleksa Avramovic, Jovan Jocovic, Mihael Gireg, Jovana Raukovic, and Jovana Saban.

The "My first volleyball" project is promoted as a part of the "Our side of the net" initiative, with 18 volleyball players in the making receiving a real competition ball. The aim of the project is to popularize volleyball in cities and communities by involving former players, especially the Serbian volleyball stars who won gold at the Olympic Games in Sydney 15 years ago.

The project participants in Stara Pazova played by the "It's time for work and action" slogan, with Mijic on hand to provide expert advice.

"It is a great pleasure for me to take part in this project. This will surely attract many kids, who may take up volleyball after such an event. I am particulary glad to be in Stara Pazova, because I played a lot of matches here and I know this is a true volleyball city. Our goal is to interest children in our sport, and to get the authorities to invest in volleyball," said Mijic.

"Vasa Mijic came here to show the kids how wonderful our sport is. It is time to take action, to work hard, and we intend this project to have a huge impact, because our children are important to us“, said Zoran Avramovic.

After the training session, an exhibition match was played between a team of girls and boys and members of the youth girls’ team of Serbia.
