VCP Refereeing Course held in Tegucigalpa

The VCP Refereeing Course in Honduras was led by FIVB Instructor Mr Juan Angel Pereyra
Tegucigalpa, Honduras, March 11, 2015 – A Volleyball Cooperation Programme Refereeing Course took place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from March 6-10 under the supervision of FIVB Instructor Mr Juan Angel Pereyra.

The course was held in two venues: the Technological University of Central America and the sports facilities at Tegucigalpa’s Olympic Village. It addressed the needs of a participants with different backgrounds, including national federation staff, players, and above all referees.

One participant - a nineteen-year-old university student - said his passion for volleyball had started watching his sister play with her school team. He had never had a trainer, but started playing the game against a wall - he is now a player for his university’s team and dreams of becoming an international referee.

The course fit in neatly with the national federation’s efforts to promote and develop different aspects of the sport, including refereeing. It typically addresses a variety of issues and supports the implementation of a Referee Commission in all national federations. It also emphasizes the importance of referees in volleyball, and the need to recognize referees for their contribution to the sport.
