Italy launches indoor beach volleyball championship

The Italian Federation has launched an indoor beach volleyball event

Rome, Italy, January 28, 2015 - The Italian Federation launched an indoor beach volleyball competition in December, which will give Italian athletes an opportunity to play year-round. The new event is the ideal continuation of the summer circuit, which has been the most important competition for Italy's beach volleyball athletes over its last 21 editions.

The most recent stage of the championship (for men) saw victory go to Filippo Romani and Fabrizio Andreatta, who defeated Andrea Lupo and Francesco Vanni 2-0 (15-13, 15-13)
in Mussolente. In earlier stages, Matteo and Paolo Ingrosso had won in Milan. Giulia Momoli and Lucia Bacchi climbed to the top step of the podium in the first women’s event, which was also held in Mussolente.

After the first three rounds, the men's event will move to Rome from February 21-22. A women's event will take place in Rome from February 28 to March 1. From March 7-8, women’s teams will also compete in Mantova. The competition's finals for men and women will take place from April 4-6 in Spotorno.

The championship is also the opportunity to test some new rules of the game, including playing to the best of three sets played to 15 points, having no technical timeouts and teams switching ends every five points.
