Jacopo Massari voted MVP by fans in Piacenza

Jacopo Massari receives the MVP prize from team captain Hristo Zlatanov
Piacenza, Italy, December 5, 2014 - Outside spiker Jacopo Massari was crowned "Most Valuable Player" by the spectators at PalaBanca on Friday, during a third leg match of the 2015 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men.

After the bad home start in the competition, a 2-3 loss to Tomis Constanta, Copra Volley Piacenza returned the smiles to their fans’ faces with a great 3-1 victory against Dragons Lugano.

From the beginning of the game, Massari was one of the best on the court and contributed 16 points, including 3 aces and 1 kill block. Behind Massari on the podium were two of his teammates, Thijs Ter Horst in second and Hristo Zlatanov in third. Libero Mario Da Silva also received many points with a spike in the number of votes in the third set, when he registered 84% good reception.

This voting procedure has been followed for quite some time in matches of the national league and is now used also on the European stage. The winner of the contest received a basket of charcuterie offered by a local company which is also a sponsor of Copra Volley. Consorzio Salumi DOP Piacentini will be supporting the team throughout the whole campaign in Europe’s elite competition. This action is aimed at promoting flavours and tastes of the local neighbourhood by exploiting the visibility offered by the Champions League and the participation of teams and players from many different countries. The visiting teams also have the opportunity to taste these products during their stay in Piacenza and to take  some home for free. That basket with local charcuterie is being offered not only to the player who is voted MVP of Copra’s home matches, but also to a lucky fan drawn among those in attendance and casting their votes.

The app used by fans to cast their votes is available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone and additional content has been included since the end of the 2013-2014 season. It includes the latest news from the club, videos taken from workouts and training sessions as well as matches played by Copra, together with insights from the daily training routine of captain Hristo Zlatanov and his teammates. The app is very easy to use and appreciated by the fans. The latest version has been made available on all online app stores.

That same prize will be at stake once more on January 20 as Copra Volley play the last home match of the League Round, hosting Knack Roeselare.
