Argentina win Boys' South American Championship

Argentina celebrate winning the championship
Bariloche, Argentina, November 13, 2014 - The 3rd Boys' South American Championship ended on Wednesday in the Argentine city of San Carlos de Bariloche, with home team Argentina claiming the title for the second time after overcoming Paraguay 3-0 (25-18, 35-19, 25-17) in an exciting finale. Chile won the bronze medals.

The Argentina team also won five individual awards including: Lautaro Gerlero (setter), Bruno Wagner (opposite hitter), Luis Brunaccio (middle hitter) and Santiago Arroyo (libero), who are part of the ideal team, added to Federico Seia, MVP. The other awards were won by Francisco Doña (Chile, middle hitter), Renato Bogarin (Paraguay, outside hitter) and Eder Rojas (Paraguay, outside hitter).

Argentina won the Preliminary Round with 2-0 results against Peru, Paraguay and Chile on Monday and Tuesday morning. The matches in the first phase were played to the best of three sets.

In the semifinals, the Albiceleste demonstrated outstanding skills to beat Peru and qualify for the final. Key elements in Argentina's final victory included strong spikes from Seia and Wagner, Brunaccio's blocking and a high overall level of skills in the team.
