Boys' South American Championship begins in Argentina

The championship in Bariloche, Argentina takes place from November 10-12
Bariloche, Argentina, November 10, 2014 - Four matches featured on the programme of the opening day of the third edition of the Boys' South American Championship on Monday. The competition is taking place from November 10-12 at the Pero Estremador Gym in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, which is located in some of Argentina's most spectacular scenery.

Argentina started the competition with victories against Peru 2-0 (25-10, 25-12) and Paraguay 2-0 (25-23, 25-15). Chile obtained a victory over Peru 2-0 (25-12, 25-12), but then lost against Paraguay 2-0 (25-23, 25-18).

On Tuesday morning, Paraguay will take on Peru at 9.30, while the home team of Argentina will play Chile at 11.00.

The competition's Opening Ceremony on Monday featured music played by the Mountain Military School Band. The teams of Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Argentina entered the gym led by local volleyball players, who carried the names and flags of each of the delegations.

The Bariloche city authorities were present, including Mayor Maria Eugenia Martini, representing the Provincial Governor Enrique Muena. Also in attendance were: South American Confederation (CSV) Technical Delegate Mr Jaun Castro from Peru, Referee Supervisor Mr George Hideyuki Kuroki from Brazil, CSV Delegate Mr Anderson Gomes Mendes, also from Brazil, Argentine Volleyball Federation (FeVA) Delegate Mr Eduardo Iglesias, the President of the Rio Negro Volleyball Federation Mr Jose Vilte and Organising Committee General Coordinator Mr Milan Magister.

Mr Magister thanked the CSV and FeVA for the confidence shown in organising the competition under the supervision of the Rio Negro Volleyball Federation, together with the Bariloche Volleyball Association. He pointed out the importance of such an event in broadcasting volleyball among age-group athletes, while Mr Castro thanked the Organising Committee for their work ahead of such an important competition.

Mr Castro also said: "Many young athletes have come here for the first time to compete in an international tournament and will take home not only the beautiful scenery surrounding them but also the warmth of the local people". He also said that the level of organisation had far surpassed required standards.
