Workshop completed ahead of 34th FIVB World Congress

National Federation representatives attended a workshop ahead of the 34th FIVB World Congress on Friday and Saturday
Cagliari, Italy, October 30, 2014 – The key FIVB Congress Workshop, with participants being urged to participate and take advantage of the opportunities on offer, was completed ahead of the 34th FIVB World Congress which takes place in Cagliari, Italy on Friday and Saturday.

FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° opened with a call to participants to make the most of the development programmes put in place over the last two years. “Our goal is to provide innovation and opportunities for those who want to work and believe in themselves to move on,” Dr. Graça said. “We have problems but we also have solutions to your problems.”

President Graça added that the FIVB has invested over $25m in development programmes in 2012 and 2013. “In some continents we have had extraordinary results, with most of the problems solved in NORCECA and South America, whose teams are participating in all the competitions,” he said. “We are working intensively with Europe, and Africa is implementing the African Dream programme that we want to adapt to Asia.”

FIVB Executive Vice President and Development Commission President Dr. Saleh Ahmad Bin Nasser invited the national federation representatives to work together. “In the last two years we have had great support from the FIVB with the aim to help our members,” he said. “We need to help our national federations in categories I and II to progress but also those in categories III and IV to move from where they are now.”

Serbia Volleyball Federation Vice President and FIVB Development Commission Member Vladimir Grbic spoke on the subject of beach volleyball and school activities, saying that motivating participants and working with governments and educational authorities are crucial elements of a successful strategy for the development of the sport.

FIVB TV and New Media Commission President Mr Fernando Lima underlined the need for the FIVB national federations to “record everything” and think about using balloons as an element when he spoke at the FIVB Congress Workshop on Thursday.

The continental confederations presented their development plans for the years ahead. NORCECA President Mr Cristobal Marte Hoffiz sees a bright future for the confederation as a result of a development programme started in 2008 based on three pillars: structure, instruction and competition.
