Special contest launched in Bari for young writers, ringside seat at stake

The contest is open to young writers interested in having a first-hand look at the world's best volleyball players, who are set to compete in Bari from September 23-October 5

Bari, Italy, September 8, 2014 – To follow in the footsteps of the FIVB “Young Writers for Young Players” programme, the organisers of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014 in Bari have joined forces with their media partner La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno for a contest specifically aimed at young journalists.

“Un mondiale in prima fila” which stands for “A World Championship from a ringside seat” is a contest open to young writers aged 15 to 25 and the two eventual winners will get the opportunity to follow matches of the 1st and 2nd Round from the press tribune of the local Palaflorio in Bari. Their articles will also be published daily in La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, which will feature reporting from the World Championship. The goal of this action is to provide young writers and journalists with an opportunity to follow the volleyball highlight of the year and to get additional exposure on the most read daily newspaper in the regions of Apulia and Basilicata.

Since last week, the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno has been publishing a special insert devoted to sporting events with a focus on the upcoming FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, which will stop in Bari from September 23-October 5. The eventual winners of the contest will get their seat next to some of the most renowned volleyball journalists, who will travel to Bari from China, Japan, Belgium and numerous other countries around the world.

Those interested in joining the contest are invited to do so by contributing a short essay – about 1,500 characters with spaces – to share their impressions, dreams and views ahead of the World Championship. Tickets to follow the matches at Palaflorio are also at stake. All texts are to be e-mailed to sport@gazzettamezzogiorno.it by September 22, 2014 at the latest.
