Poland and Iran lead charge for three consecutive wins to achieve new team records

Poland will attempt to win their third match to achieve this feat for four consecutive editions of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship
Wroclaw and Krakow, Poland, September 4, 2014 – Poland and Iran have won their two matches so far, they sit on top of the standings in Pools A and D, respectively, and are on course to achieve new team records should they deliver victories on the third day of competition against their opponents in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. 

Poland have won both their matches in straight sets and will be in a better groove to take their third victory over Venezuela. For three editions of the World Championship, Poland have won their first three matches in each edition. 

Meanwhile, Iran are up to improve their team history to win three consecutive matches for the first time.

• Cameroon are still waiting on their first straight sets win in the World Championship since their 3-0 win over Venezuela in 1990. 

• Cameroon have lost at least three matches in straight sets in their two previous World Championship participations. 

• Argentina have won 3-0 and lost 3-1 in this World Championship edition so far – the first time their result of their first two matches alternated. 

• Argentina are almost in perfect balance in set wins with 158 sets won and 156 sets against. • Cameroon and Argentina will meet for the first time. 

• Argentina are unbeaten in the World Championship against African teams with four wins.

• Australia won the opener against Cameroon before losing to Poland; they have yet to win multiple matches at a single edition of the World Championship.

• Australia have won only one of their 13 meetings with European sides; they beat Turkey in a five-setter in 1998.

• Iran have won their first two matches in the tournament for the first time. 

• Iran have beaten two teams they have never beaten before at the World Championship. 

• France lost to Italy 3-2 after being two sets up; their second time to experience at the World Championship. 

• It is the first time that started their World Championship campaign without two victories since 1990. 

• Iran and France will meet for the second time at the World Championship; they last met in 1970 when France defeated Iran 3-0. 

• France are currently on a five-match winning streak at the World Championship against Asian teams.

• Poland have won their first two matches in this edition; they can win at least three matches and achieve this in four consecutive World Championship editions.

• Venezuela ended a seven-match losing streat at the World Championship when they beat Cameroon 3-1.
