China match 1998 win-record; Brazil reach sixth six-match win streak

China celebrate their back-to-back victories in the competition - their first since 1998.
Katowice and Gdansk, Poland, September 3, 2014 – China and Brazil were big winners on the second day of competition in Pool C of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, achieving single and multiple win-records, respectively. 

China started off strong with two straight victories in Pool C, which they have never achieved in the last four editions of the World Championship. Brazil know victory so well that they have achieved in six editions of the World Championship a winning streak of six, courtesy of their straight set victories over Germany and Tunisia. 

Meanwhile, Finland have also won twice in the competition so far to trail Brazil in the standings. Russia are on top of Pool C as they won double straight set victories over Mexico and Egypt, respectively.

Key Points 

• Cuba have lost three successive World Championship matches. 

• Cuba have not lost three in a row at a World Championship since they lost four in 2006.

• Bulgaria have lost to a NORCECA team for the second time. 

• The first NORCECA team that beat them were USA in 1956.

• Korea and Finland have met 12 times in major tournaments. 

• Korea won the first four, while Finland won the last eight.

• China have now won back-to-back matches at the World Championship. 

• The last time they achieved this feat was in 1998.

• Brazil are on a six-match winning streak. 

• Brazil have achieved this kind of streak for the sixth time in the World Championship.

• Russia remain unbeaten by Egypt in all matches on main events.
