Italian Baranowicz proud about Polish ancestry

Italy's Michele Baranowicz praised the passion for volleyball the Polish fans show at anytime
Krakow, Poland, September 2, 2014 – Michele Baranowicz a setter in the Italian team competing at the FIVB Men’s World Championship is very proud of his polish ancestry and of course of the passion they show for the sport of volleyball.
The son of Wojciech Baranowicz, a former Polish volleyball player, Michele gave credit to the fans on hand at Hala Krakow Arena on Tuesday for giving his team the extra boost to win a five-set match against France after falling behind 0-2 in sets.

“I can remember the time when I played in Resovia and the atmosphere created by the Poles always was great in every match,” Baranowicz recalled following the 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-13, 15-12 stunning victory. “Polish fans always provide the atmosphere in every game they go, no matter the teams.”

We had the opportunity to chat for a while with Baranowicz about the badly needed victory after losing to Iran in their opener.

First and most important, what happened after the second set when everyone thought France would win?

In the third set we finally started to play real volleyball. Started to play as a team and I think that was the most important key for our game. At the end of the second set , were playing as six individual people on the court, and that wasn’t good.”

What do you expect for your next opponent, Belgium after a good game with USA?  Now you will have to revenge your loss at the European Championship?

“Yes, we remember that match and we also know they have a very good team with great players. Also their middle blocker is very good and we can get into problems with him. But if we play the way we did in the third set tonight, being aggressive since the very beginning, we will win, for sure.”

How about the atmosphere, here in Krakow? About the Arena and the Poles who decided to support you, instead to watch the game of Poland?

“First of all, thank you Poland for your support today! Polish fans always give a great atmosphere in every game, they go. Supporting Poland or not. They always have fun, and they motivated us to win the game.”

Any plans for today? Somewhere to celebrate, or back to the hotel to sleep?

“No, no. We have to prepare for the next game, so we will go to our hotel, eat a light dinner and we will go to sleep. We will celebrate probably on Sunday evening. We are exhausted after this difficult game.”
