Thirteen men’s teams undefeated in Youth Olympics after two pool play rounds

Nanjing, China, August 18, 2014 - Thirteen countries improved their men’s pool play records to 2-0 here Monday during the second of five days of group Beach Volleyball competition in the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games at the sport’s venue in the Nanjing Sports Park Complex.

Men’s Pool C is the only group with three unbeaten nations - France (Arnaud Gauthier-Rat / Arnaud Loiseau), Peru (Luis Bramont-Arias/Jimy Heredia) and Puerto Rico (Sergio Figueroa/Daniel Rivera).  The Puerto Ricans will play Peru Tuesday and France Thursday.  France and Peru meet on the final day of pool play Friday.

Men’s Key Points
• Undefeated countries in the competition are Argentina (Pool D), France (Pool C), Germany (Pool B), Indonesia (Pool F), Kazakhstan (Pool A), New Zealand (Pool B), Peru (Pool C), Puerto Rico (Pool C), Russia (Pool E), Sri Lanka (Pool E), Ukraine (Pool D), Uruguay (Pool A) and Venezuela (Pool F).
• Monday’s best match featured two-highly-regard pairs from Europe and South America as Niklas Rudolf and Eric Stadie of Germany upset Arthur Mariano and George Wanderley of Brazil 2-1 (24-26, 22-20 and 15-12) in a 56-minute Pool B match.  Arthur and George won the FIVB’s under-19 world championships three weeks ago in Porto, Portugal.
• Illia Kovaliov and Oleh Plotnytskiy of Ukraine, who placed second at the FIVB U19 worlds, defeated Aloisio De Sousa and Alex Quaresma of Sao Tome and Principe 2-0 (21-14 and 21-12) in 24 minutes Monday.
• FIVB U19 bronze medal medalists Tigrito Gomez and Peter Hernandez of Venezuela also won Monday with a 2-1 (15-21, 21-13 and 15-8) victory over def. Dominik Kmiecik and Jakub Macura of Poland in 39 minutes).
