Peru train ahead of their World Grand Prix encounter with Canada
Lima, Peru, July 24, 2014 - Peru's women's volleyball team, coached by Natalia Malaga, have intensified their training schedule at the "El Olivar" Training Centre in Lima city. In their third appearance in the World Grand Prix, the new Peruvian team, led by junior player Angela Leyva, will hope to improve on their performances in 1994 and 2011.
Karla Ortiz, one of the most experienced athletes of this young Peruvian team at only 23 years of age, said: "The Grand Prix is a big challenge for us; our team is very young, with many girls who still belong in our junior team. We are training very hard everyday because we want to surprise our rivals and make Peruvians proud."
It is the first time that Peru hosts the World Grand Prix. Lima city has been selected to host the first weekend of the Preliminary Round from July 25 to 27. Canada, Belgium, Poland and Peru will play at the Eduardo Dibos Gymnasium in Lima. The second weekend will see Cuba, Puerto Rico, Poland and Peru play at the Gran Chimu Gymnasium in Trujillo, Peru, from August 1-3.
