Lausanne, Switzerland, July 23, 2014 - The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) President, Dr. Ary S. Graça F° completed a fruitful meeting in Lausanne on Wednesday with the Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) and Tokyo Broadcasting System Holdings, Inc (TBS) on the possibility of Tokyo hosting the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in 2018.

The FIVB confirmed that negotiations are well advanced but that the final contract has not yet been signed. The FIVB will work with the potential host city authorities over the next few weeks to finalise the deal and a decision is expected to be officially announced in August 2014.
Speaking following the meeting, President Graça said:

“My team and I are very happy with the positive and encouraging discussions we had with the TBS and JVA representatives who travelled all the way to the FIVB headquarters today. They made a very compelling case to host the 2018 Women’s World Championship – one of the FIVB premier events – and I am confident that we will finalise the plans in the coming weeks.

“I have known and worked with JVA President Dr. Yuichiro Hamu for many years and I have no doubt that he and his team will organise a world-class event in 2018 which reflects the FIVB’s vision for volleyball. As host of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, I am confident that we are in good hands with Tokyo!”

This year’s edition of the Women’s World Championship will be held across Italy, in Rome, Trieste, Verona, Bari, Modena and Milan from September 23 to October 12. The tournament will involve 24 teams that are set to compete for the title in one of volleyball's most anticipated events of the year.
