Serbia, USA coaches cautious before deciding matches in Serbia

Dragan Stankovic, Igor Kolakovic, John Speraw and Sean Rooney after Thursday's press conference in Novi Sad
Novi Sad, Serbia, July 3, 2014 – Serbia will play two games against the United States in the final weekend of Pool B in the FIVB World League. The two teams will meet in Novi Sad on Friday and Belgrade on Sunday.

With the top three teams in Pool B all in a position to qualify for the Final Six in Florence, this weekend’s games will be crucial. At a press conference in Novi Sad on Thursday, the coaches and captains of both teams expressed their feelings before these two decisive games.

Serbia coach Igor Kolakovic: “This last weekend is very important for us, for the USA and also for Russia. We want to win these two matches and we know what we have to do. However, it will be very difficult, because we are facing an excellent team.”

USA coach John Speraw: “We expect a large crowd and a lot of enthusiasm from the Serbian fans and from the Serbian team. Essentially, this is the play-off before the play-offs. This brings more intensity to the matches and I am sure that’s exactly what we are going to see this weekend.”

Serbia captain Dragan Stankovic: “For several weekends now, we are playing with an imperative to win, so we are used to this kind of pressure. The important thing is to play game by game. We must focus on the first match and win it. After that, we are going to think about the possibilities for us in the second match.”

USA captain Sean Rooney: “The results of these matches are very important for both teams. Both are great volleyball teams. We are very excited to compete and I expect Serbia bring their best volleyball in these matches – and we will be ready.”
