Serbia target two imperative wins against USA
Serbia hosts USA in Novi Sad and Belgrade, aiming for two important victories to keep them in the run for the World League Final Six in Florence, Italy|
Novi Sad, Serbia, July 2, 2014 – Serbia and the United
States have played 10 matches so far in the FIVB Volleyball World League but
interestingly, this will only be the second time that these two teams will find
themselves in the same group.
The first time they played in 2006, and to this moment, they
have played four matches in the Intercontinental Round and four times in the
Final Round of the World League. Serbia have the upper hand with six victories
out of the 10 matches they have played with each other. USA won both times in
their last two matches played last month in Chicago.
Serbia still has a chance to qualify for the Final Six in
Florence, Italy, but they will have a difficult task as they must win both
matches or at least drop a maximum of two sets against the United States.
“We are facing very tough matches,” Serbia coach Igor
Kolakovic said. “USA have demonstrated how powerful they are in our matches
last month, and they have also proven their strength playing and winning an
away match in Russia. It will be difficult but we will do our best to win the
first match and try to win the second one as well.”
The match between Serbia and Russia will take place on
Friday, July 4 at 20:00 local time at the SPC Vojvodina in Novi Sad, and on
Sunday, July 6, 20:00 local time at the Hala Pionir in Belgrade.
