Anzani excited to be with Italy squad in World League
If he does, he will be the fourth Italian to make his debut in this year’s competition after Luigi Randazzo, Massimo Colaci and Antonio Corvetta.
“I feel a great emotion because it is my first experience with the senior national team,” Anzani said. “Being in the World League is a source of pride and excitement and being in this squad, who are having a great season, is extremely gratifying and of course that makes me happy.
“The work is very hard and the pace higher than when I train with my club. I have to maintain a high level of concentration because at this level it is easy to risk being left behind and I don’t want to do that.”
But the middle blocker is just concentrating on doing well for the team rather than worrying about making his debut.
“Frankly, my only goal is to do my best,” he says. “That’s the reason why I'm here. I'll just try to make myself available for these two games and make a contribution that will enable the team to score points against opponents who defend really well.”
Anzani is not looking to do anything special.
“Something special is just being ready to do what you have to to help the team do well; that's my real goal for this weekend.”
Italy will face Iran in Tehran’s Azadi Sports Complex on June 20 and 22.
Italy tops the Pool A table with 19 points from eight games, ahead of Poland (eight points from six games), Brazil (eight points from eight games) and Iran (seven points from six games).
