"Iran is in good shape" for home match against Brazil

Tehran, Iran, June 13, 2014 - Iran national team coach, Slobodan Kovac praised his players for winning their away game against Brazil in the third week of World League Intercontinental Round action.  But in a press conference prior to Friday's match he cautioned that the team should not rest on their laurels.

"The triumph against Brazil is now over and players must concentrate on the upcoming matches," said Kovac.

The reigning Asian volleyball champions defeated Brazil in São Paulo in straight sets 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 22-25). Reigning World Champions, Brazil have won the World League title a total of nine times in the history of the tournament.

"Iran is in Pool A together with powerful teams and emotionally it is difficult to forget the last win", Kovac said.

"Everyone knows Brazil very well and there is no need to talk about the capabilities of this team,” he continued. "However Iran is in a good shape and I hope to get a good result in both games against Brazil."

The Serbian head coach of Iran, known as ‘Boban’, has changed the line-up for Friday's match against Brazil. “Saman Faezi is injured and will be replaced by Adel Gholami,” explained Kovac. "Farhad Zarif still needs time to fully recover from his shoulder injury, and we hope to have him for the game against Italy."

Iran will play Brazil on Friday and Sunday, June 13 and 15, at the Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran.
