World Championship trophy tour kicks off in style

The World Championship trophy tour has enjoyed a successful start in Rome
Rome, Italy, June 7, 2014 – The FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship trophy tour has already proven to be a huge hit on its first day, with even more fans expected to get a look at the trophy in the coming days and weeks as the countdown to the tournament continues apace.

The Eternal City is the first venue for the tour, with fans flocking to the Foro Italico Sports Complex on Saturday to feast their eyes on the brand new trophy.

With 10,500 set to attend the FIVB Volleyball World League match of the week between Italy and Poland on Sunday even more fans will have the chance to learn about the trophy, the tournament, its history and the stars that have graced it in previous 16 editions.

“We want to thank FIVB for choosing Rome as the starting place for the Trophy Tour,” Andrea Scozzese, president of the Rome Local Committee Organization said. “To have the Trophy here is a good sign for the women’s team. We are proud of the celebrative and official meaning of the Trophy but we hope Italy can keep it by winning it.”

Rome will also kick off the World Championship September 23 to mark 20 days of fierce volleyball action across the country.
