Czech Republic scout future stars with “Mini Volleyball in Colours”

The Czech Republic women's team had a meet-and-greet with the children that participated at the Mini Volleyball in Colours in Plazen

Plzen, Czech Republic, June 1, 2014 - By the time their women’s national team is playing in the second round of qualifications for the 2015 CEV Volleyball European Championship – where they got their ticket after scoring a 3-0 victory over Slovenia – the Czech Volleyball Federation is also scouting young children who may be the country's future volleyball stars.

The project, known as "Mini Volleyball in Colours", is an exclusive and well-established tournament since few years, has helped popularise and develop volleyball among the young Czech generation.

A regional tournament was held on Saturday and Sunday in Plzen where some 40 volleyball courts were set up to welcome more than 800 children to account for one of the largest kids’ events in the Czech Republic this year.

After having their own share of fun, the kids then moved to the local sports hall to cheer on the home heroines of the Czech Republic against Slovenia.

The Czech players thanked their young fans for their support and in return on Sunday visited the mini volleyball tournament to meet with their supporters.

“It is just incredible to see so many young children playing Volleyball,” said Czech captain Helena Havelkova. “This project organised by the Czech Volleyball Federation is just great and I hope that out of these tournaments we will get the next generation of great volleyball players for the national team.”
