Brazil bounce back from disappointing opening weekend with first win

Leandro Vissoto goes on the attack for Brazil as the hosts defeat Poland for their first win of this year's competition

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 29, 2014 – Brazil clinched a convincing straight-sets (25-23, 29-27, 25-19) win over Poland and put a disappointing opening weekend behind them on Thursday as week two of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World League got underway in Maringa.

Brazil were downed by Italy in front of their home fans last weekend but made amends against the travelling Poles with their first victory of the tournament.

Captain Bruno Rezende was relieved that his side recovered from last week‘s upset.

“We played more aggressively today,” he said. “I think Brazil still have to improve but it was important to achieve our first victory at home. Tomorrow I hope we can play even better.”

But Poland, who host the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship later this year, will have to capitalize on Brazilian mistakes if they are to reverse the result according to libero Ignaczak Krzysztof.

“When we played against Brazil we cannot lose our chances and it happened today. Tomorrow we will play a better game.”

The FIVB Volleyball World League 2014 continues on Friday with three matches.
