Brazil get set for match against Poland

Keen to avoid a repeat of least weekend, Brazil are practicing hard for their matches against Poland on Thursday and Friday at 14:45 local time at Chico Neto Gymnasium in Maringá

Maringá, Brazil, May 28, 2014 - After a disappointing first week of the 2014 FIVB World League when Brazil lost two home games to Italy, the Brazilian national team is ready to change the story this week in Maringá.

According to middle blocker Lucas Saatkamp, it is time for Brazil to raise their game.

"The FIVB World League is an important test in the lead up to the FIVB World Championship in Poland", said Saatkamp. "We played a lot against Poland in the last competitions and we know that the matches against them are always difficult. They have a strong block and we need more consistency in our serving that did not help our game against Italy."

Brazil's legendary coach Bernardo Rezende underscored the importance of attaining two victories against Poland for Brazil to qualify for the Finals of the 2014 FIVB World League where the best six teams of the competition with play for the top prize.

"What we need more at this moment is practice", said Rezende. "We know that our time is short but we have to improve. This week we will have Luis Felipe Marques Fonteles and he will be an important boost for the team. We need good results here to achieve our goal of qualifying for the Finals."

This weekend will see Poland play their first match of the 2014 FIVB World League against Brazil. The European team that won the title in 2012 are working hard to try to top the podium once again this year.

Brazil and Poland have met each other 29 times in the World League, with the former winning 21 of those matches and the latter, eight. This is the fourth successive season that Poland and Brazil will play each other in the tournament.
