Brazil and Italy first up in "Match of the week"

Brazil and Italy play at 13.10 GMT on May 24
Lausanne, Switzerland, May 22, 2014 - Brazil and Italy will be the first teams to feature in the FIVB World League match of the week that takes volleyball into new territories and homes.

The FIVB Volleyball World League ‘Match of the Week’ allows broadcasters to televise for free, one match from each week of the FIVB’s premier annual tournament for men and first up is the clash between the reigning FIVB world champions and 2013 World League silver medallists Brazil and the 2013 World League bronze medallists Italy.

The match on May 24 at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua Do Sul, Brazil is the start of both teams' 25th year competing in the World League and they are the only teams to have been ever-present in the FIVB’s highest profile annual men’s tournament.

Appropriately enough, it is also the 25th meeting between the two sides, with both teams having won 12 matches apiece.

The second Match of the Week is the Match 10 meeting between European powerhouses Serbia and Russia. The match will take place at the Cair Sports Centre in Nis and will start at 20.00 local time (18.00 GMT).

The seven Matches of the Week will be distributed by IMG free of charge to all major international networks and the host broadcaster. The matches will include English commentary and will be shown live and on demand on FIVB Web TV, geo-blocked only in countries where respective rights have been sold.

This year in the World League there are a record 28 teams competing, a rise of 10 from 2013. Five of the participating teams are making their debuts; Belgium, Mexico, Slovakia, Tunisia and Turkey. The tournament will begin on May 23 with the Finals taking place on July 20.
