France coach Tillie selects 12 players for opening round of World League

The French squad for the World League
Lausanne, Switzerland, May 13, 2014 - French coach Laurent Tillie has unveiled a list of 12 players for training in Brazil and the opening round of World League matches in Argentina.

The French team will finalise their preparations at a training camp at Brazil’s National Training Centre in cooperation with the Brazilian national team. The World League will begin on the weekend of May 24.

Tillie outlined the reasons for some of his selections.

“Kevin Le Roux has a freshly sprained ankle and won’t be able to recover before Argentina,” he explained. “Thibault Rossard was examined because we wanted to see how he was. He had back problems and hasn’t been able to train. As for Nicolas Rossard, he was competing with Jenia Grebennikov [as libero] and I preferred to go with Jenia.”

With injuries to Le Roux and Julien Lyneel (knee), the training staff also kept an eye on Earvin Ngapeth. "He always has a little pain in his shoulder, but he is recovering so we’ll keep him with us,” Tillie said. As a result, he will fly with his teammates to Brazil.

“We will train with the triple world champions and double Olympic champions,” Tillie added. “Our goal is to work well and have good preparation for our World League debut in Argentina. You’re always going to gain something when you train with the best team in the world.”

The Blues will make face Argentina in the World League on May 24 and 25 in Mendoza. “They have a new coach, Julio Velasco, who was twice world champion with Italy,” Tillie pointed out. “It will breathe new life into their team. This is a team that plays very good volleyball, and fast volleyball.”
