Switzerland's Volero electrify home crowd with a win against Favourite Brazil's SESI-SP

 Zurich, Switzerland, May 7, 2014- In an exciting opening Switzerland's Volero Zurich electrified their home crowd with a 3-2 (25-12, 25-18, 15-25, 15-25, 15-10) victory over favourites SESI-SP in pool A of the 2014 Women's Club World championship held at Saalsporthalle in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday.

 The opening featured also a 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22) victory for the other Brazilian representative Molico/ Osasco over Japan's Hisamitsu Springs in Pool B.

Pool A
Volero Zurich (SUI) beat SESI-SP (BRA) 3-2 (25-12, 25-18, 15-25, 15-25, 15-10)

 Volero Zurich electrified their hometown crowd with a marathon five-set  comeback win against heavy favourites Pool A rivals Brazil's SESI-SP (25-12, 25-18, 15-25, 15-25, 15-10) in 110 minutes at Saalsporthalle .

 After Volero won the first and second sets in style, SESI came back successfully with all volleyball skills to win two successive sets, until Volero again exploded in the tiebreak to win the thrilling encounter with the extraordinary finish.

 With her unbelievable performance Volero's opposite attacker Olesia Rykhliuk scored impressive 25 points for her team including 2 blocks making the competition's best scoring performance so far to come as match scorer followed by Kenia Carcaces 13 points. The Marvelous middle blocker Fabiana Claudino contributed 14 points for her team as the best scorer from her side. 

“We started really well, but couldn’t adapt to their changes in the formation afterwards in the third and fourth set. As consequence, we started struggling. However, I told my teammates to fight for this important victory and as we started to believe in ourselves in the fifth set,” Volero captain Mira Golubovic said. More  

Pool B
Molico /Osasco beat Hisamitsu Springs 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22)

 Heavy favourites Brazil's Molico /Osasco opened the 2014 FIVB Women's Club World Championship on the right foot with a convincing 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22) in 99 minutes over the motivated Japan's Hisamitsu Springs in Pool B.

 Outstanding Brazilian middle blocker Thaisa Menezes topped the chart of the scorers with 18 points including 5 dying blocks followed by opposite spiker Sheilla Castro 14 points. On the other side left handed opposite Miyu Nagaoka was the main scorer for the Japanese with a tally of 17 points including 3 successful blocks followed by outside hitter Risa Shinnabe who contributed 11 for her team. 

What made the difference in the exciting match was the superior blocking activity for Molico team who succeeded to gain 15 dying blocks against only 8 for Hisamitsu.

"It’s always difficult to play against teams from Japan. They’ve got a lot of variety in their game play. We proved patience, what made the difference today.” said Molico Osasco coach Luizomar De Moura.More
