Afghanistan and Tajikistan cement friendship through volleyball

Afghanistan won all three matches of the Friendship Cup and is now preparing to host the zonal volleyball championship in Kabul.

Kabul, Afghanistan, May 5, 2014 - The Afghanistan Volleyball Federation (AVF) hosted the Tajikistan national men's volleyball team for the first tournament in four decades.

The tournament, the Afghanistan Tajikistan Friendship Cup, was held in Kabul from April 23 to 30 and was sponsored by Etisalat Afghanistan.

The teams played three matches that were broadcast live on TV. H.E. Dr. Obaidullah Obaid (Minister of Higher Education), H.E. Mr. Farahi (Deputy Minister of Culture and Information), H.E. Mr. Homayoon Rassa (Deputy Minister of National Security and Director General of Sport and Physical Education) and some Members of Parliament were the chief guests at each match.

The Afghan people were highly appreciative of the AVF’s initiative to develop more volleyball in the country.
