Italy gears up for FIVB World Championship by hosting series of technical clinics

The staff of the local Organising Committees set up for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship as well as foreign guests attended the clinics organised by the Italian Volleyball Federation in Montesilvano
Montesilvano, Italy, April 25, 2014 - Italy is willing to put on a great volleyball show by the time the country plays host in late September to the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014. With this in mind, the Organising Committee held from Thursday through Friday a set of clinics in order to train the local staff but also some other members of the international volleyball family.

“We want to raise the quality of our organisation and provide volleyball with the best we can offer in terms of professionalism and skills,” says Tournament Director Renato Arena who is also a member of the FIVB Board of Administration. “However, this action is not only addressed to our staff that will be working for the World Championship. We decided to open it also to all other organisers of FIVB events throughout the coming season, starting with the FIVB World League to continue with the World Grand Prix. Since the video check system we have developed here in Italy will be used in all of these competitions, the attendance to the seminar was open to representatives from countries spanning from Japan and Hong Kong to Brazil, Peru, and Mexico. The world’s volleyball family was represented in all of its facets this weekend here in Montesilvano.”

The features and general concept of the video check system used at this year’s Final Four tournaments of the 2014 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League were discussed during theoretical sessions as well as during a practical clinic where all participants could get accustomed with this innovative tool. “The seminar was a unique opportunity for all attendees to get to know this system and also to better understand what it offers to support the steady development of our sport,” Mr. Arena continued.

This weekend Montesilvano, a seaside resort situated just nearby Pescara that in 2009 played host to the volleyball event of the Mediterranean Games, is hosting a qualification tournament for the 2014 CEV U19 Volleyball European Championship – Women with the participation of the national teams representing hosts Italy, Denmark, Poland and Spain. This event also turned into a very useful opportunity to train the press staff as well as the Competition Directors that will be on duty in each of the six cities hosting the World Championship.

“We want our staff to start preparing for the Championship well before the opening day of the competition,” Mr. Arena says. “We have involved experienced lecturers to share their knowledge and skills with our staff and I am convinced that with this action we have laid the foundations for a top and memorable event whereby we want to raise the profile of our sport to new heights.”
