2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball Media Guide now available

With the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour set to begin, the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball Media Guide is now available on the FIVB website.

Lausanne, Switzerland, April, 19, 2014 - On the eve of the beginning of another dynamic international schedule on all five continents, the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) has announced that the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball Media Guide is now available online on the FIVB website.

With back to back double-gender FIVB World Tour events starting next week in China, the 268-page guide includes 11 separate chapters of historical and current information and detailed statistical data dating back to the first FIVB men’s international event in 1987, the start of the men’s FIVB World Tour in 1989 and the start of the women’s FIVB World Tour in 1992.

The guide, produced under the direction of the FIVB Press Department, contains significant historical information regarding all of the key elements connected to and the overall progression of FIVB Beach Volleyball events.  The 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball Media Guide may be accessed through the following link:

The 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar features a record purse of US$10.2 million with a season that extends from late April to mid-December with 21 venues in 18 countries.  This year’s FIVB World Tour includes a record 10 FIVB Grand Slam events, the inaugural Grand Slam Finale and 11 FIVB Open Tournaments.

The FIVB Grand Slam competitions, all double-gender, have eight with $800,000 in total purses while both The Hague, Netherlands and the Long Beach, Calif., USA event will have $1 million each in prize money, the most in FIVB Grand Slam history.

The 11 FIVB Open tournaments in 2014, seven double-gender, two men only and two women only, will have $150,000 total purses for the double gender events and $75,000 for the single-gender competitions.

In addition to previewing 2014 and 2013, the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball Media Guide also includes a story and complete final four stats for the four age-group FIVB World Championships to be held this year.

As part of the initiatives of FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° and his leadership team, the 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball international calendar also includes a record four age-group FIVB World Championships along with the 2014 Nanjing (China) Youth Olympic Games. The FIVB Beach Volleyball U17 World Championships will debut this year while the U23 championships debuted in 2013. This year will mark the 14th annual U21 championships and the 13th annual U19 championships.

Among the chapters in the guide is a complete breakdown of Beach Volleyball at the Olympic Games which has been a medal sport for five Olympics since it debuted in Atlanta in 1996 including lists of all participants by country and every match score and duration.

The guide also chronicles all 297 men’s and all 260 women’s FIVB World Tour final four, a thorough breakdown of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships which were first held in 1997 on the campus of UCLA in Los Angeles (USA) along with a statistical look and results as well as leaders at all 80 men’s and all 73 women’s FIVB Beach Volleyball Grand Slam events.

The 2013 season is reviewed in statistical detail and the guide also includes a review by country and individually at FIVB Beach Volleyball history. The guide even presents data regarding the youngest and oldest event winners as well as the highest scoring and longest matches in FIVB Beach Volleyball history.
