Sierra Leone men and Rwanda women top podium of African qualifiers for Youth Olympic Games

 
Competing teams in the African Qualification Tournament for Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games
 
Accra, Ghana, April 16, 2014 - Sierra Leone men and Rwanda women finished on top of the African Qualification Tournament for the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Accra on Monday. 

Sierra Leone defeated hosts Ghana 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, 15-11) to pick up the gold in the men's final, while Burundi pulled off a 2-0 (21-18, 21-14) victory over Congo to close its tournament campaign in third place. 

The Sierra Leone pair now heads the qualified men’s teams from Africa to the Youth Olympic Games. Ghana, Burundi, Congo, Nigeria, and Rwanda, likewise secured spots for the second edition of the Youth Olympic Games. 

In the women’s side, Rwanda proved their consistency throughout the competition by beating Namibia 2-1 (17-21, 21-19, 19-17) in the final match. Sierra Leone took the bronze by beating Ghana 2-1 (11-21, 21-15, 15-10). 

Rwanda, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, and Congo women’s teams have set the achievement to make it to the first ever beach volleyball competition at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, from August 17 to 28, 2014.
