Beach Volleyball Seminar sets scene for season ahead

The FIVB Beach Volleyball Technical Supervisor and Referee Delegates Seminar participants outside the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 15, 2014 – The pre-season preparations for another bumper year of FIVB beach volleyball reached a crescendo following a two-day FIVB Beach Volleyball Technical Supervisor and Referee Delegates Seminar, which was held at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Chaired by FIVB Beach Volleyball Commission President Vicente Araujo alongside FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo and FIVB Beach Volleyball Department Director Angelo Squeo, the seminar provided a complete review of the season’s operational requirements and regulations with the active participation of the participants, providing their experience and expert feedback with the aim to have a unified approach to the busy beach volleyball season ahead, which not only includes the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour but also the Age Group World Championships, the Continental Cup and the Youth Olympic Games.

Other key discussion points included an overview of the events structure and the 2014 calendar and assignments before the Technical Supervisors and Referee Delegates held separate workshops on their specific areas.

There were a total of 35 participants plus the five members of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Department.

The Technical Supervisor is appointed by the FIVB and is the highest authority on site for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events, responsible for ensuring, in collaboration with the FIVB Beach Volleyball Department and the help of the other FIVB delegates onsite, that the full requirements of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Handbook are met by the organiser.

The Referee Delegate, who is under the authority of the FIVB Technical Supervisor, is also appointed by the FIVB and assumes all duties related to the referee aspects of the competition, as specified in the Referee Delegate’s Manual.
