China's men’s national team begin training for 2014 season!
Beijing, China, March 31, 2014 – The men’s national team of China have begun intensive training for the World League Intercontinental Round in June and the World Championships later this year with players from the top two teams in the Chinese Volleyball League joining the first group of 11 on Sunday.
China earned their ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 after winning the AVC qualification tournament in September last year when the beat India on the final day of competition. While world No. 18 China have their eye on the World Championship scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 21, their first port of call is the World League Intercontinental Round which will start in June.
A total of 26 players, led by coach Mr. Xie Guochen, have been included on the national team roster announced by the China Volleyball Association, with 16 players will participate in the training.
The roster maintains the main lineup of veteran Chinese players like Yuan Zhi, Jiao Shuai, Chu Hui, Fang Yingchao and Yuan Zhi (who is also on the coaching staff this year). The selection reflects coach Xie Guochen’s desire for stability, while compensating for the dearth of good wing spikers in the team. It is hoped that the five new faces – Shan Qingtao, Zhao Yichen, Pan Chenyuan, Li Yuanbo and Tang Cheng – will add to the team dynamic.
