Dominican Bethania De la Cruz continues with her offensive talents in Korea
Hwaseong, Korea, March 27, 2014 – Stellar Bethania De la Cruz erupted with 42 points to lead the five-set victory of GS Caltex over IBK Altos in the opening match of the best-of-five final series of the Korean Women’s Volleyball League on Thursday.

The powerful outside hitter from the Dominican Republic dominated the match with a variety of shots as GS Caltex recovered to claim a 25-17, 20-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-10 victory at the Hwaseong Gymnasium.

Team’s captain Jeong Dae Young contributed 12 points in the victory while libero Soh Young Lee played sparkling defense. IBK Altos had the Puerto Rican Karina Ocasio-Malpica as its top scorer with 29 points.

It was a seesaw battle as IBK Altos, winners of the regular series, grabbed the second and third sets prompting a reaction by GS Caltex led by De la Cruz, who was coming from two outstanding performances in the semifinal round.

Playing focused since the start of the fourth set, GS Caltex dominated all the way to force the tie-breaker they won easily from start to finish.

“I am very glad with the victory,” De la Cruz said. “It was not easy as the score shows but we were able to recover on time to get the victory as visitors.”

“It is just one victory and we need to keep playing hard and playing as a team to win again on Saturday and then go back home,” she added.
