Eight African clubs chase FIVB Men's Club World Championship berth


Sousse, Tunisia, March 25, 2014 - Eight African clubs will battle it out for the prestigious FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship Belo Horizonte 2014 slot when they play the 2014 Men's African Club Championship quarterfinals at Sousse, Tunisia on Wednesday.

The quarterfinal programme features eight North African teams from Tunisia (three teams), Algeria, Libya (two teams) and Egypt (one team) creating a lot of traditional derbies.

Ten time champions Ahly of Egypt will face Algeria's Bourj Bouaririj who are hoping for their  first championship title. Hosts and two time champions Etoile du Sahel (TUN) will line up against 2013 bronze medallists, Ahly Tripoli of Libya.

Six time champions Sfax of Tunisia meet Ahly Benighanzi of Libya in a third famous derby, while three time champions Esperance play Setif of Algeria in the last quarterfinal encounter.

The quarterfinals will start the knockout stage to determine the winner of the competition who will secure a ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Men's Club Word Championship in Brazil.
