The Mineirinho Arena has been an outstanding venue for FIVB Volleyball World League in the past

After being held in Betim last year, the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship Belo Horizonte 2014 will be held in Brazil's largest venue with a capacity of 18,000.

It already has a great tradition of hosting FIVB Volleyball World League matches. Belo Horizonte, capital city of the state of Minas Gerais, is the third most important city in Brazil.

Sada Cruzeiro also announced that the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship will start one day earlier and finish one day earlier from May 5 to 10, rather than the previous announced dates which were May 6 to 11.

“The new venue for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship in Belo Horizonte will provide an exceptional stage on which the best men’s clubs in the world will compete for the ultimate in club honours," FIVB Sports Events Council President Aleksandar Boricic said. "Mineirinho is a remarkable venue with an excellent track record of hosting FIVB Volleyball World League matches so we are expecting a brilliant atmosphere for what is going to be an outstanding tournament.”

"It is with great satisfaction that will host the
FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship again," Sada Cruzeiro President Vittorio Medioli said. "And for the first time the tournament will be held in Belo Horizonte, in a place considered the temple of volleyball, the largest structure we have in the state, meeting a demand of our supporters and sponsors also. We will try to repeat the successful format we had in 2013, with parallel actions to sports, tourism, leisure, arts and culture. And I want to thank the governor and the mayor Anastasia Márcio Lacerda by the partnership in organizing this great event."

To date three out of eight teams have been determined for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship, with the most recent – Russia’s Belogorie Belgorod – having qualified on Sunday following their title win at the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League - Men in Ankara, Turkey.

Belogorie Belgorod joins defending champion, host country club and winner of the South American Men’s Club Championship Brazil’s Sada Cruzeiro. UPCN of Argentina will also take part in the World Championship this year as  runner-up of the South American Men's Club Championship.

This year’s tournament will comprise the Continental champion teams from South America, Europe, Africa and Asia in addition to the NORCECA nominated team. The participation of two teams – jointly decided by the FIVB and the organisers – will complete the line-up of clubs taking part in the Championship.

With the men’s African qualifiers currently underway in Sousse, Tunisia, four more teams secured their tickets to the quarterfinal of the 2014 Men's African Club Championship on Sunday: Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia) and Borj Bou Aririj (Algeria) will take part in Pool A  while Setif (Algeria) and Sfax (Tunisia) will join Pool B. Four more slots will be determined for pools C and D when the competition resumes on Monday.
