Russia’s Belogorie Belgorod wins ticket to FIVB Men’s Club Championship

CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League winners Belogorie Belgo celebrate

Ankara, Turkey, March 23, 2014 - Russia’s Belogorie Belgorod has secured a ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship 2014, by winning their third crown in the CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League on Sunday, defeating hosts Halkbank Ankara 3-1(25-18, 21-25, 25-16, 27-25).

With the victory, Belogorie emulates Italy’s Trentino Volley, the sole club whose showcase also includes three titles in Europe’s elite club competition. Belogorie, whose previous titles dated back to 2003 and 2004, prolonged Russia’s rule in the CEV Volleyball Champions League. Russian teams have won the cup in the last three straight seasons.

Halkbank Ankara’s silver medal is Turkey’s best result in the 14 years of the competition.
