Nearly 100 people are taking part in a South American Referee Regional Course in Bogota,

Bogota, Colombia, March, 22, 2014 – Nearly 100 people are taking part in a South American Referee Regional Course in Bogota, which aims to update and expand the number of Colombian referees at international competitions.

Participants have come from across the country for a course taught by Guillermo Paredes, president of the South American arbitration commission and an FIVB instructor, Ricardo Cogua an international referee and national instructor and Ovaldo Sumavil, an international referee.

As well as being coached in theory, participants will also be able to try out the new scoring system.

“I'm very surprised by the development of volleyball in Colombia and by the large number of participants in the course,” said Paredes.

"The assistance of the volleyball family is a testament to the growth of our beautiful sport,” president of the Colombian Volleyball Federation, Taylor Lozada, said to the participants. “After finishing the course you will be able to grow the sport of volleyball.”

Dr. Rafael Lloreda, president of the South American Volleyball Confederation, supported and nominated instructors on the course and Ovaldo Sumavil and Guilermo Paredes led training in Bogota. The course was promoted by the National Arbitration Commission of the Colombian Federation and supported by the South American Volleyball Confederation.
