Arakida appointed to Executive Board of 2020 Tokyo Olympics

 Lausanne, Switzerland, March 20, 2014 – Former Japan volleyball star Yuko Arakida has been appointed to the Executive Board of the 2020 Olympic Games Organising Committee.

Arakida, 60, who is an Executive Board Member of the Japanese Olympic Committee and was Sports Director for Tokyo’s 2020 bid, was one of seven women appointed to the board.

Arakida was a member of the Japanese volleyball team that won the gold medal at the Montreal Olympics in 1976. It was Japan’s last gold medal in women’s volleyball, although they have won two bronze medals since then, in 1984 and 2012.

She is Chairperson of the Athletes’ Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia.
