Chilean cousins hoping for home delights

Santiago, Chile, March 15, 2015 – Chilean cousins Esteban and Marco Grimalt will be out to give their home fans something to cheer when they compete in the South American Games semifinals on Saturday.

The duo will try to use their experience from the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships and World Tour when they take on Venezuela’s London 2012 Olympian Jesus Villafane and Jackson Henriquez in the first of the semifinals.

The 24-year-old Marco and 23-year-old Esteban have competed on the FIVB World Tour since 2011, with a ninth place finish at the 2013 Sao Paolo Grand Slam their best result.

If they win they are assured of Brazilian opponents. Emanuel Rego and Pedro Salgado take on Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt in the second men’s semifinal after both sides went through the competition without dropping a set.

In the women’s competition Argentina’s London 2012 Olympian Ana Gallay and Georgina Klug take on Colombian sisters Andrea and Claudia Galindo.

Gallay and Klug ended 2013 in fine form having just missed out on last-four place in the FIVB Phuket Open and will want to set a marker for the coming 2014 FIVB Beach Volleyball Tour that starts with the Fuzhou Open in China at the end of April.

They too are guaranteed Brazilian opponents. FIVB world ranking champions Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima take on Liliane Maestrini and Eduarda Lisboa Santos in the second semifinal.

The South American Games are currently taking place in Santiago, Chile from March 7-18, with the beach volleyball competition running from March 12-15.

The volleyball competition will draw to a close on Monday and you can read all about how that unfolds on www.FIVB.org
