Saipan stages National Volleyball Refereeing Course

Participants at the refereeing course in Saipan
Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, March 11, 2014 – The Pacific Island of Saipan is currently hosting a National Volleyball Refereeing Course, sponsored by the FIVB.

A total of 25 local participants – 17 men and eight women – are taking part in the course under the supervision of FIVB Instructor Avelino Azevedo of Portugal.
During the course, which runs through Saturday at the Marianas High School, the participants will study both theoretical and practical components.

A Volley All Festival at the same venue will give the candidates opportunities to referee matches.

The courses are a strong component of the FIVB’s strategy to educate up-and-coming referees and keep them abreast of changes to the rules and regulations of the sport.

The referee course is designed to educate and train new referees at the national level, while providing national federations with a structure that helps them to continue developing their own national referees, which is a key point for the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association.
