Maldives running National Volleyball Refereeing Course

Participants at the refereeing course in the Maldives
Male, Maldives, March 6, 2014 – The Maldives Volleyball Federation is currently running a National Volleyball Refereeing Course sponsored by the FIVB.

A total of 28 local referees are taking part in the course under the supervision of FIVB Instructor Avelino Azevedo of Portugal.

The course runs from March 4 to 8, with 21 men and eight women taking part.

Such courses form a strong component of the Federation’s strategy to educate up-and-coming referees and to keep them abreast of any changes to the rules and regulations in the sport.

The Refereeing Course is designed to educate and train new referees at the national level, while providing National Federations with a structure so that they may continue to develop national referees.

The Maldives course, in which the participants apply themselves to both theoretical and practical aspects of the game, is taking place alongside, and at the same location as, the annual Milo Interschool Competition.

This year’s Milo Competition runs from March 3 to 17 at the Indoor Social Center in Male, with 14 men’s and 13 women’s teams taking part. In all, there will be 57 matches featuring over 300 players between the ages of 14 and 19.
