World League Finals hosts proud to stage prestigious international tournament

Ardent volleyball supporters will get a chance to experience the excitement of the World League when Bursa, Turkey holds a Final for teams in Group 3 this year
Lausanne, Switzerland, March 5, 2014 – The FIVB Volleyball World League 2014 will see three Finals to conclude the competition and the respective venues – Italy, Australia and Turkey – are overjoyed at the prospect of hosting the very best of men’s volleyball.

The historic Italian city of Florence will host the Group 1 Finals for Pools A and B; Sydney, Australia, will take care of Group 2 (Pools C, D & E); and Bursa, Turkey, will handle Group 3 (Pools F & G).

“To host the Final Six of the World League in Italy after a gap of several years is a matter of great pride for me and for all the Italian Volleyball Federation,” said Carlo Magri, the President of the Italian Volleyball Federation.

“Every year, the Italian Volleyball Federation is involved in organising a great number of events and the final act of the 25th edition of the FIVB World League will be one of the highlights of 2014. The six best teams in the world will compete in matches that will remain in the memory of fans around the world. I’m sure it will be a great success.”

While Italy is an old hand at hosting international volleyball events, Australia is a rising force in the men’s game and is looking forward to hosting the Group 2 Finals.

Volleyball Australia CEO Judy Flanagan commented: “With the support of the FIVB, we have set have an ambitious international hosting agenda to continue to place Australia on the global stage in one of the largest global sports as a force to be reckoned with. There is nothing like playing in front of a large, passionate and vocal home crowd.”

Volleyball Australia President Craig Carracher echoed his colleague’s sentiments: “I would like to thank the FIVB for their support of Volleyball Australia in once again bringing international matches to our shores. We cannot underestimate the significance of Australia competing in and hosting the World League rounds and Finals for the Volleyroos’ quest to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and for the development and growth of the game in Australia.”
Turkish Volleyball Federation President Ozkan Mutlugil said his country was honoured to be hosts.
“Hosting the Finals of 2014 FIVB World League in Turkey makes us very honoured to be able to allow our volleyball supporters to watch one of the greatest world volleyball events of this year,” he stated. “Bursa is a city over 2 million people in north-western Turkey and is a sports-loving city.

“I want to express my gratitude to the FIVB for showing us the trust to organise these World League Finals. We, as the TVF, appreciate this trust and hope this world-wide organisation will contribute to the development of volleyball in Turkey.”
