CAVB launch Beach Volleyball U17 Championships

CAVB's U17 Championships will act as a qualifier for the FIVB U17 World Championships
The African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) has announced it will organise an U17 boys and girls continental tournament for the first time in 2014, a tournament that will act as a qualifier for the inaugural FIVB U17 Beach Volleyball World Championships.

Six African teams per gender will qualify for the World Championships that are due to be held in Bahia de Banderas in Mexico from July 15-20.

The African U17 Beach Volleyball Championships will take place over two phases; a Zonal phase from which the top teams will qualify for the CAVB Cup Finals where the six top ranked teams will secure their qualification for the U17 World Championships.

“The new event will be a good chance for African national federations to create new generations of younger players, which will reflect further progress of the sport in Africa,” CAVB Beach Director May Alaa said.

“Now all NFs have to work hard from school age to develop volleyball for future generations after the great success of the other age groups that were created in the last couple of years.”

For the last two years the CAVB has organised continental championships from U19, U21, and U23 age-groups, all of which act as qualifiers for the FIVB World Championships.
