Rwanda upset Cameroon at World Championship qualifier
Yaoundé, Cameroon, February 14, 2014 – Rwanda surprised host Cameroon 3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17) in the second day of the African qualifying tournament Pool T for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship held at Palais des Sports in Yaoundé on Friday.
The match was Rwanda’s first victory in the tournament, after losing against Algeria in straight sets on the opening day, giving them a 1-1 record. Cameroon, which also won their first match against Nigeria, records 1-1 in the qualifiers.
Nigeria flew past Gabon 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-16) in the day's first match to improve to 1-1, while the losers started their matches with 0-1.
The winner of the five nation round robin tournament will secure a ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Poland from August 30 to September 21.
