Northern Marianas Islands host successful Cool Volley Festival

The first Cool Volley festival of the year took place on January 24 at the Hopwood Junior High School and was free for the students from the designated schools.

Saipan, Northern Marianas Islands, February 12, 2014 – A Cool Volley Festival was organised in the Northern Marianas Isalands for over 350 students from four elementary schools, two junior high schools and one high school.

The festival put into practice many of the skill development strategies learned through the "Volleyball in the school" symposium that was held in December 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand.

At least two more Cool Volley events will be organised to include the remaining schools on the islands, with more than 700 students expected to attend before the school year ends in June 2014.

The main goals of the Cool Volley programme are:

To bring volleyball to the entire country. Being a game which costs little to run, Cool Volley can take volleyball to places where the sport has previously not been experienced.

To allow young people to experience the sport of volleyball. Cool Volley, being practiced all over the world, allows young people to learn about the sport and think about possibly pursuing it more in the future.

To create interest and passion for the sport of volleyball. It is hoped that the festivals will encourage students to approach the game of volleyball as a simplified and fun way to practice sport.
