Germany prepare for World Championship qualifiers with matches against Belgium

Germany will face Croatia, Estonia and Turkey in World Championship qualifiers January 3-5
Frankfurt, Germany, December 27, 2013 – The German men’s team did not have much time to celebrate Christmas as coach Vital Heynen took his players to Maaseik for a couple of friendly matches with Belgium.

The games are the last stage of Germany’s preparations for qualifiers for the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championships, which will take place at the MHP Arena in Ludwigsburg.
The friendly matches with Belgium will be played in Maaseik and Zoersel.

Belgium was the sensation of 2013 as they won this year’s European League without dropping a match.

They finished seventh at the 2013 CEV VELUX Volleyball European Championship in Denmark and upset Italy in the group stage.

The German team has travelled to Belgium with 14 players but only 12 will be retained for the World Championship qualifiers. Head coach Vital Heynen is likely to disclose their names on January 2.

In the qualifying tournament, Germany will face Croatia, Estonia, and Turkey.

“The goal I want to achieve via these matches is to give some playing time to each of the players and to improve team work” Heynen said.
