Volleyball Australia sets up training camp for Junior Women

54 Australian Junior players are participating in the week long training camp

Mitchell, Australia, December 18, 2013 - Volleyball Australia Junior Women’s Development Programme is currently conducting the annual ‘Churchill Training Camp’  from December 13 to 19, 2013.

This camp is the first official activity for the National Youth Girl’s Squad (for athletes born in 1998 or 1999) and involves 54 athletes and 16 coaches from around Australia.

This weeklong National Training Camp is designed to continue players' skill development, to help them understand the ‘International game’, and to further develop the systems used by national teams during international competition.

The camp aims to expose many athletes to their first taste of beach volleyball training and to develop ‘complete’ athletes who can compete in either volleyball or beach volleyball. Athletes attending this camp will be considered for selection to further national programme camps and possible international competitions scheduled in 2014 and beyond.

The camp started with a beach volleyball weekend at Inverloch beach, a one hour drive from Churchill, with Olympian Lou Bawden helping to coach the girls.

Volleyball Australia also introduced a ‘where did you come from’ day where athletes wore the playing top of their state or club- an initiative aimed at maintaining a strong culture of belonging in the sport.
