Wellington, New
Zealand, December 10, 2013 - Volleyball New Zealand announced that
the 2014 International Beach Volleyball Tour will be held from January 17 to
February 2 and will feature three main events.
The first leg will be held
in Mairangi Bay (Auckland) from January 17 to 19, the second in Lake Karapiro (Waikato)
from January 24 to 26 and the last in Mt Maunganui (Bay of Plenty) from
January 31 to February 2.
These events are the
pinnacle of beach volleyball in the country and have attracted international
teams of high calibre, including world champions and other top ten world ranked
teams. This not only provides a great spectacle for the fans of beach
volleyball but also gives top domestic athletes invaluable experience against
world class opponents. The beach tour is also used as a bench mark to rank teams
for the Asian Beach Volleyball Tour.
Volleyball New
Zealand is now accepting expressions of interest from all international
teams interested in competing on
the New Zealand Tour this season. The tour director will also be facilitating international training
camps in all three centres and can work with athletes to ensure that teams can
find accommodation and training groups.
The New Zealand Tour is
internationally regarded as a competitive training opportunity as well as an excellent social and
cultural experience during the Northern Hemisphere winter. New Zealand’s summer
climate is ideal for beach volleyball with temperatures in the low to
mid 20’s (Celsius) and light breezes.
Mairangi Bay has developed
into one of the top training venues in the country with access to a number of
New Zealand’s top coaches. An international standard beach volleyball facility
has been built alongside Lake Karapirthe. Mt Maunganui is regarded by
many of the professional beach volleyball players as the best training location
in the world. The famous Main Beach lies at the base of “The
Mount” (or Mauao).
