NBC set to broadcast Honolulu showdown

Tune into NBC this Saturday to see how Sean Rosenthal fared in Honolulu

Lausanne, Switzerland, December 11, 2013 – Leading US television broadcaster NBC is set to air the Hilton HHonors Beach Volleyball Challenge this weekend.

The tournament, which was played in mid-November and featured teams from USA, Canada and China, will be broadcast on NBC Sports and NBC Universal on Saturday, December 14. Fans are advised to check local listings to avoid missing the action.

Both the women’s and the men’s draw featured a team from the USA, plus one each from Canada and China. They started off in a round-robin pool play and from there the second and third place team progressed to the semifinal, with the victor meeting the pool winner in the gold medal match.

Triple Olympic champion Kerri Walsh and her new partner April Ross, the 2009 FIVB world champion and one half of the London 2012 silver medallists, were the leading female duo and they faced off against Canada’s Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas and Chen Xue and Xinyi Xia of China.

Their fellow Americans Phil Dalhausser and Sean Rosenthal took on China’s Jiaxin Wu and Jian Li in their first match, before they played Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk, their rivals from north of the border.

The USA won gold in both the women’s and men’s tournaments; Ross and Walsh defeated Chen Xue and Xinyi Xia in the women’s final, while Dalhausser and Rosenthal overcame Saxton and Schalk to end the men’s competition victoriously.
