Saquarema, Brazil, December 2, 2013 - The Volleyball Development Centre (CDV) in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, will host the second edition of the Boys’ South American Championship Under-17, from December 4 to 7.

Competing alongside hosts Brazil will be Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The Argentine delegation travelled to Brazil on Saturday to play two friendly matches against the hosts Brazil who are also the defending champions of the first edition of this competition. Argentina’s team coached by Julian Alvarez won the first match 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-21) and the second 2-1 (22-25, 28-26, 25-22).

The first edition of the tournament was held in 2011 in Ecuador. This year’s competition will see six teams playing each other in the preliminary round in a round robin format.

Argentina and Brazil are scheduled to play each other on Friday morning, on the last day of qualification phase.

Some teams will play two matches on Saturday, the last day of competition. The semi-finals will take place among the  four best ranked teams  in the preliminary round (1 versus 4 and 2 versus 3). The match for the fifth place, the bronze medal and the final will take place in the afternoon.
